One Man Jam
If you’ve looked at the portfolio section of this website, you have most likely noticed that one of the most commonly reoccurring names following the phrase “additional camera work” is Chase Bartee.
For the past four years, Chase has been a student of the Film, Animation, and Video program at the Rhode Island School of Design, and has also been a close friend and frequent collaborator on a variety of video projects.
Almost every edit I ever produced for Fountain of Youth contained at least one clip filmed by Chase, and two years ago, when I broke my right foot just before I was to premiere the as-yet unfinished “Unsigned Hype”, Chase came to my rescue and filmed final bits and pieces of the stars of the film so that I could wrap up the production.
The following year, Chase produced a full length video of his own entitled “Idiosyncrasies”, and I was honored to return the favor and contribute footage to the final product.

During the time I was working on MOBILE TECHGNARLOGY (the trailer for which Chase inadvertently provided the soundtrack to), Chase was hard at work on projects of his own. In between the multitude of films he produced within his program at RISD, he found time to film and edit a skate video entitled ”Another Perfect Job”, which was shot over the course of two months on the obsolete Digital8 format. The finished product premiered on the same night as MOBILE TECHGNARLOGY, and was remarkably well received by the crowd in attendance.

FEATURING A SOUNDTRACK PROVIDED BY CHASE
All of Chase’s hard work over the past four years will culminate tomorrow as he graduates from RISD and begins the next chapter of his life. Chase’s current plans include returning to his native West Virginia for the summer before relocating to Montana to serve as a tour guide for fishing trips in a National Park.
Whether or not Chase continues to make films, the mark he has made during his time in Providence will not soon be forgotten. Whatever the future holds for Mr. Bartee, he will bring with him his trademark wit and worldly savoir faire, and I’m sure he’ll do just fine.
So today, let’s all raise a bottle of Evan Williams (Chase’s favorite), and toast the man of the hour, Chase Bartee, the One Man Jam.
